It's time for Avid Baker's Challenge monthly bake! For this month, it is Big Batch Scones taken from The Weekend Baker, by Abigail Johnson Dodge, the book that ABC is currently baking from. For this recipe, Abby has given a couple of flavour variations for you to choose from. One of the flavour is chocolate chopped to small bits, I use choc chips instead, I never did like to cut up chocolates!
Scones are usually not so pretty looking, mine would definitely not win any prize in terms of appearance, but don't "judge the book by its cover"! What they lack in appearance, they sure more than made up in taste!
Abby has given a mixture for a big batch, where the mixture can easily be stored and measured out in batches as and when you need them. How very convenient! She has also given the measurement for one single recipe and I chose this instead. One of the ingredient used is buttermilk, which I do not have, I just substitute with a mixture of milk and yoghurt.
The dough is quite sticky, but with a little dusting of flour on the worktop, your hands and on the dough, really helps. This is so easy to make that you'll be enjoying this within an hour! Would be great when my nieces and nephews come for a visit, they would definitely love this!
Overall rating : Delicious, tender, buttery scones! And even more yummy with the choc chips, lovely with a glass of cold milk!
